For every feast, the Orthodox Church has special readings. For most feasts, those readings tell the story of the feast. For example, at Christmas, we hear the story of Jesus’s birth; at Pascha, we hear about Jesus’s death and resurrection. But, for the Feast of the Dormition--the celebration of the death of the Virgin Mary--the story doesn’t appear in the Bible. So, what do we read? Well, we’ll soon see that the reading the Church selects actually talks about a different Mary and has nothing to do with death? So, what’s going on?
